The MarsBee project was selected for the 2018 NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts Phase I program. “Marsbee—Swarm of Flapping Wing Flyers for Enhanced Mars Exploration” investigates whether small flapping-wing vehicles could serve as a reconfigurable sensing network in the Martian environment.
FDCL’s planned contribution includes nonlinear control systems and exploration strategies for three-dimensional topographic mapping. The project connects biologically inspired flight with the demands of planetary exploration.
